Some 2 year old children will be eligible for 570 hours of free childcare per year. This is usually taken as 15 hours per week for 38 weeks of the year (during school term time).
In order to be eligible, you must be claiming one of the following:-
Income Support
income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
support through part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act
the guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
the Working Tax Credit 4-week run on (the payment you get when you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)
Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit or Universal Credit and have a gross household income of £16,190 a year or less
All 3 and 4 year old children are eligible for 570 hours of free childcare per year from the term after their third birthday until they go to school. This is usually taken as 15 hours per week for 38 weeks of the year (during school term time).
Free early years education is available from the term after your child turns three. This finishes at the end of the term in which your child turns five. You can use the table below to work out when your child’s free place will start and end.

Working parents/carers of 3 and 4 year old’s in Derby may be eligible for up to a further 15 hours free childcare in addition to the existing free 15 hours early education entitlement, if they meet certain criteria. Since September 2017, eligible families will be entitled to 1140 hours of free childcare each year. The new extended entitlement aims to support working parents to manage the cost of childcare, support parents into work and enable parents to increase their working hours.

Childcare Vouchers are a good way of paying for all or part of your childcare costs. You can take up to £55 a week of your wages as childcare vouchers, which you don’t pay tax or National Insurance on. You could save nearly a £1000 per year if you use the full allowance of £243 per month – and each parent can do this.
Your employer must be registered in the scheme to do this but it doesn’t apply to only large employers, small companies can do it as well.

You can get up to £500 every 3 months (£2,000 a year) for each of your children to help with the costs of childcare.
If you get Tax-Free Childcare, the government will pay £2 for every £8 you pay your childcare provider via an online account.
